Appointments

Consultations may be booked between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday to Friday (last appointment 5:30 pm) and select Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm (last appointment 12:30 pm). We are closed on Sundays and all public holidays.

We are able to provide emergency care during our open hours unless at we are at patient capacity. For emergencies, we do run off a triage based system, so we please ask that you call us first at 6295 0770 so we can determine the level of urgency and prepare needed treatments. We do not offer overnight care, so will organise for your pet to be transferred to either ARH or CVES for continued care after hours if needed.

After Hours Emergency Care

The Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) can be found at 364 Fairbairn Ave, Pialligo (previously located in Fyshwick). While open 24/7, ARH typically has specialist appointments running throughout the day so is primarily available for emergencies from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am on weekdays, and is available 24 hours on weekends and public holidays. All records are transferred back to your pet’s regular vet the next day for record keeping and any needed continued care. ARH does not require appointments to be made for emergency care, but does ask that you call ahead first where possible so they can prepare for your animal’s needs, they can be contacted on 6280 6344.

The Valley Veterinary Emergency (VVE) provides weekend only emergency care for cats and dogs, operating out of the Weston Woden Animal Hospital at 176 Dixon Drive, Holder. Services for exotic pets are case-dependent, so the team asks that you call them first to discuss potential treatment options. They are open 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Saturdays, and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sundays. All records are transferred back to your pet’s regular vet the next day for record keeping and any needed continued care. VVE does not require appointments to be made for emergency care, but does ask that you call ahead first where possible so they can prepare for your animal’s needs, they can be contacted on 6281 7111.

After Hours Non-Emergency Care

For non-life-threatening concerns that occur after hours, the Walk in Clinic for Animals (WICA) can be found at 30 Totterdell St, Belconnen all weekdays from 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm. WICA works off a first-come, first-served basis for all animals including exotics, so no appointments are needed for your pet to be seen. If it’s your first time visiting WICA with your pet, you can fill out their New Client/Patient Form online before arrival to save time waiting. WICA is able to see unwell patients, help with minor wounds, itchy skin, unwanted ingestions, and even vaccinations. If you are unsure whether your pet is experiencing an emergency, needs after hours care or can wait to be seen by your regular vet, the team can help advise this by giving them a call at 0482 092 824.

If you are unable to drive out to see a vet or are having difficulties getting your pet in the car to travel, Pawssum is a network of mobile vets that can come straight to your door. While unable to provide surgeries, Pawssum vets can provide a large range of other services for your sick pet and will be able to determine if your pet needs to be referred elsewhere for continued care. Pawssum vets are available 7 days a week from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm including public holidays. Appointments, including urgent appointments, can be made on their website or by calling 1300 343 580. Pawssum also offers video call or chat appointments with licenced vets during their open hours, which offer general pet advice, can determine possible causes of a problem or can advise what treatments are recommended for your pet.

For Best for Pet members, you have access to an 24/7 virtual VetChat with a licenced vet included in your plan. You can chat with a vet, either on video or text, for general advice or for peace of mind when you’re unsure whether your pet needs to be accessed in person.
